As a stylist, I have my favourite shopping haunts that I frequent when prepping for a shoot, it’s often the unexpected ones that I go rather than run of the mill high street. I was recently asked by English Home magazine to reveal my little black book of shops, now I want to show you my hidden treasures from Homesense. Have you visited a store before? It’s one of those places where you can pop in for something and lose yourself for a good few hours. Sister group to TK Maxx, Homesense is renowned for stylish one-off piece that have been sourced from all over the world.
My shooting style reflects my love of natural materials, which I often pair together when styling, not only because I love the rawness but the texture reads so well on camera. The last shoot I did was for an American essential oils company where all of my props had to fit with the clients USP of pure botanical ingredients. I paired the oils with a selection wood, marble and natural textiles including 100%% cotton and linens. Homesense was the perfect place to shop for these items and a lot of their products had up to 60% off the RRP, worked wonders for my budget!

The quality of the stone pestle and mortar was unmistakable as it weighed a ton! I like the fact that it is a dark stone as it won’t show the grinding marks. I often have to find certain fooodie products for my shoots, one of which is Himalayan salt and Homesense had this in abundance.
Quality parmesan graters are hard to come by, especially ones with lovely wooden handles. This one has been tried and tested and works just fine.
I know marble is possibly the most popular material on the planet right now but let’s look at the reason why they make such great serving boards. The marble surface helps to keep food cool and so great for meat or cheese, it also has antimicrobial and antibacterial properties that other materials do not have. This serving board was a steal at £12.99.
Admittedly, I do have a thing for chopping boards, I think it was 7 at my last count…I go for quality, material and shape and my Homesense purchase ticked all 3 boxes. Made from 100% mango wood, I know it will last and look more beautiful with age and the circular shape makes it great for displaying on my countertop.
I’m always on the hunt for small dipping and seasoning bowls, they are great for shoots and also for the table when you have people over.
I love these salad serves as the short design allows you to have more control when you use them, they also look great against the vibrant colours of the vegetables (always the stylist!)
