The ultimate retreat

When I was asked by Juliettes Interiors to create a fantasy garden retreat, it got me thinking about what the ultimate retreat meant to me. Where would I want it to be and whom would I want to be with? What key elements would make me truly happy?

Family and friends mean more to me than anything and then the ocean comes an easy second. It is something that I am always talking about! My sister lives in South West France and it truly is my happy place. I realise that, as I grow older, nature is integral to my happiness and by that, I mean being outdoors and being all consumed by my surroundings. When I’m by the ocean, I’m able to let go of the stresses from daily life.

So, let’s imagine that my seaside villa has this view, what kind of furniture would work? A modular sofa was the obvious choice for my retreat as they are so versatile and can be adapted into many different configurations. This Contemporary Modular Design was perfect. I love the fact that this piece has been designed to fit around a central island, which can be used as a coffee table or footstool. It’s so sociable; the design literally celebrates people coming together. I was taken by the soft curved lines and interesting shapes, they seem fitting with the surroundings and are kinder on the eye compared to sharp angular shapes.

This model is available in a staggering amount of finishes. Shown here in a contemporary mix of textured fabrics in peach, orange and burnt sienna. The rich and earthy tones reflect the colours of the earth and create a sense of harmony with the natural surroundings. As you can imagine, you could dramatically change the appearance by choosing a different colour. Whether you opted for bright pops of colour or cool nautical blues, there is definitely a shade to suit all tastes. Ideal for seaside or poolside villas as the fabrics are Swimming pool and sea water resistant and repellent. Here’s what Juliette Interiors has to say about the materials:

“Easy to clean and maintain. Recyclable, GreenGuard certified, REACH certified. The finest of All Weather Fabrics that have been specifically developed for outdoor use. The fabric is mass-coloured, UV-resistant and does not fade under the influence of light or sunshine. Padded using Quick Dry Foam, a foam with a special structure that ensures that the water runs through three times faster, enabling it to ultimately dry three times faster than high resilience foam.”

Other essential garden furniture pieces for my retreat include a breakout area with table and chairs, ideal for having lunch and taking time out from the sun. In-keeping with the curved design of my modular sofa, I chose a stylish teak dining set with rich wooden tones and a subtle mid-century feel. The craftsmanship of the stackable chairs is stunning as each piece is made by hand.

The terracotta fabric complements the colours from my modular sofa and is made from a hard-wearing and water-resistant fabric. The stunning tabletop is made from a ceramic fossil which is super-hygienic, resistant to fire and high temperature, durable and environmentally friendly, you can’t beat that really! As with any holiday retreat, you want to make sure that the transition from day to night is as seamless as possible. That comes down to versatile furniture that can be adapted to suit different functions and also, lighting. The lanterns I chose from Juliettes Interiors come in 3 sizes ranging from 28cm up to 73cm, this means that they act as a sculptural piece as well an ambient light source. Operated with a remote control, the led lights are available in a matt white or lava powder-coated finish. If the weather is warm enough, eating the evening meal outside is a must, especially with a view like this.

If the evening air becomes a little chilly then everyone can gather around the firepit. This contemporary model uses Bioethanol fuel, which is a renewable energy source that burns clean and delivers warming heat. The Stix has an ethanol burner which produces a bright orange flame without producing any smoke, soot, or ash and that’s why it’s great –  it has all the benefits of a fire without any of the mess!

Now, a luxury retreat wouldn’t be complete without a hot tub, especially when you can fit the whole family in! Working in harmony with the laws of nature for maximum heating efficiency, this super stylish hot tub is from the Regal collection by Skargards. This original wood-burning hot tub has an integrated stove, a masterful combination of innovative technology and elegant Swedish design.

For the finishing touches, I selected a modern drinks trolley with a gold frame and smoked glass shelves and lots of foliage and faux plants. You can see the full collection of furniture available at Juliette Interiors here. So, who would like to come to my ultimate retreat?
