Verona Quartz worktop by CRL Stone

Next on the list of kitchen products is our Verona Quartz worktop by CRL Stone. Right from the start of our kitchen design, my husband and I knew that we wanted a marble-effect worktop. We loved the look of natural stone but didn’t want the extra care that came with it. CRL’s Quartz Verona was the ideal solution as it had the look and feel of marble, but unlike a natural stone, engineered quartz is scratch, heat and stain resistant.

CRL Stone had a vast amount of shades to choose from but we loved the subtlety of the Verona. The pale grey veins that run through the quartz are a perfect marriage with our darker contrasting base units. As you look at the kitchen from afar, the brightness of the worktop creates a fresh and contemporary feel.

I hadn’t appreciated how detailed and complexed the fitting process of the quartz would be. Once we had chosen the stone from CRL, we worked closely with our fabricators, Rock and Co who came to measure up. It was a sizeable piece of stone measuring just shy of 6 metres as we wanted large uninterrupted prep areas. Once the stone had arrived from CRL, Rock and Co began the fitting process. I was kept informed at every stage and was even asked to sign of the stone on arrival to Rock and Co to make sure that I was happy with it. The installation went really smoothly and I was impressed with how unfazed the fabricators were, having to work on our very busy build site and with other trades.

As a family, we all love to muck in and are often in the kitchen at the same time. For this reason, durability was essential. I don’t have to worry about my daughter’s making a mark on the surface, or, that an acidic liquid needs instantly wiping up. Since the installation, we have spilt untold items and nothing has stained. That said, it’s not advisable to leave any sitting liquids on the surface.

Here’s what Simon Boocock, Managing Director of CRL Europe says about trends with quartz. “Materials that reflect the great outdoors and combine with those of a rustic theme are popular in interior design and, in the kitchen, marble-inspired quartz and ceramic are ideal for creating such a look. Cabinetry with an exposed wood grain, for example, can be topped with a stone-effect surface that is highly durable as well as beautiful to look at, accentuated perhaps by bolder earthy tones seen in accessories.”

Below are some images of our kitchen which show the delicate detailing of the Verona quartz. You can see the full kitchen here in this month’s ideal Home magazine.
