Botanical dining for Homestyle magazine

I’m excited to share a few images from the April issue of Homestyle magazine (out now) where I styled 3 dining sets.  What better way to welcome Spring into the home than a subtle botanical dining scheme inspired by the English countryside. Filled with an abundance of luscious plants and fresh spring flowers, our set-up includes all the colours and textures from the garden including; weathered wood, cool concrete and rustic terracotta.

Textured walls often make the most stunning backdrops, bringing depth and interest to an otherwise lifeless space, ask any interior stylist if they would rather shoot against a plain painted or rustic wall and I’m sure they would say texture all the way. This particular wall covering may not be that cheap, but it is definitely a softer alternative to raw plaster,  the subtle grey/blue tones marry well with the weathered wooden table and are reminiscent of the finish you might find on an outside wall.

Terracotta pots look just as pretty inside as they do out, especially ones with a green/grey finish.  These particular ones are from Rowen and Wren and come in a selection of sizes.  To double up as a vase, simply place a small container of water inside the planter, it doesn’t matter what container you use as it won’t be seen, small votives work well. Our pretty rose adds a much needed hit of pink, creating warmth and softness, you could even add a little more of this hue within the illustrations or with some blush linen napkins.

Botanical illustrations and prints are a great way to ‘bring the outside in’ and fixing them with tape rather than frames creates a more relaxed approach, which is what this look is all about; accessories placed in a non-formulaic way, avoiding clean lines and modernity.

The splashes of petrol blue are introduced with the wallpaper, illustrations and mug and replicate the ever-changing colours of the sky.  Check out the latest issue of Homestyle magazine (April) to see the full article and my 2 other dining sets.
