How to create a polka dot wall with Homestyle magazine. We had great fun styling this shoot and were really pleased with how it turned out. We wanted to have some fun with polka dot walls and show you how simple it is to create.
Using a timeless monochrome palette, we styled the room with minimal accessories so the look didn’t become too fussy. A few cushions, a throw and some lifestyle elements were enough. We then added the decal stickers in a loose pattern. My advice is to not overthink where you are putting them and instead, stand back every now and judge it by eye. They can be moved around until you have a layout that you like. You might want to add more at the top to create a rainfall effect? Or, play around with a few patterns such as a cloud or balloons? My tip is to plan your ideas on paper before you begin sticking to the wall.
We finished the look with a splash of mint green using accessories from the gorgeous Oliver Bonas, This colour looks fabulous with a monochrome palette as it makes everything else pop.
Keep your larger pieces of furniture plain to avoid the scheme becoming too busy, I would recommend a white or light grey sofa. We used one from Ikea and I think it looks pretty cool.
The black and white prints add a little fun and humour, sticking them with washi tape makes the look a little less formal. Black and white photos in frames would work just as well.
We are in love with this large stripe tile from Rocket St George, it makes the perfect coaster and is big enough for 2 cups, it also doubles up as a handy base for a candle.
