All that glistens is my first trend watch and is all about reflective materials, popular colours seem to gold, brass, and silver with the odd injection of blue and green. Whether a piece has been embellished with sequins or simply has a reflective surface, it’s making waves in the fashion and interiors world. We have already witnessed a love of all things metal and now this is taking it to a whole new level.
A few tips for the best results are… metal furniture such as brass and copper look best against dark walls as the contrast brings out the reflectiveness of the material. Cushions which are printed with a flat metallic finish (like the one below) are really effective as they look stunning when they catch the light, sequin items can be a pain as no matter how much you look after them, the sequins ALWAYS fall off, my advice would be to save this pretty detailing for your handbags or dresses, the same applies with glitter – avoid at all costs!

We are all with Bohemian, folk and gypsy interiors which are typically identified by bright patterns and craft style textiles and this look is just that but with the volume of colour turned right up. The familiar red, green, yellow and purple is much brighter and often fluorescent, cushions and throws are adorned with zingy and colourful fringes, pom-poms and tassels and then mixed with equally bright furniture. Personally, this look is a bit too much for me as I am not sure I could relax in such a riot of colour, but when it’s designed well, it can look beautiful. My advice would be to use a dark backdrop to ground the scheme and introduce lots of plants to add some calm amongst the chaos!
